Appliance Maintenance and Troubleshooting
-
Refrigerator
Clean the coils every month (at the back, or underneath).
Clean the gasket/seal every month. Check for leaks.
Keep both fridge and freezer no more than ¾ full (half full is a better target).
Keep the temperature set to about the middle (37 to 40 degrees)
If it’s not cooling properly, check to see that nothing is blocking the vents and that it’s not overfull. If you see ice buildup on the vents, remove it or defrost the appliance.
Step 2 if it’s not cooling property: defrost it. Put towels down to catch any moisture.
-
Stove/oven
Wipe the stove down after every use to avoid grease buildup.
Clean the oven monthly.
Replace the drip pans if they’ve gotten excessively dirty.
-
Washing machine
Clean the drum monthly. Wipe it down after each use.
If it’s not draining, check the filter for blockages.
If it’s not washing properly, use less detergent. Reduce your load size to about half full.
-
Dryer
CLEAN YOUR LINT TRAP WITH EVERY USE.
Regularly check the lint trap and the vents for lint. Check the outside vent too.
If your clothes are coming out wet or wrinkled, most likely you are overfilling the machine. Loads should be no more than half full.
-
Dishwasher
Clean your dishwasher weekly. Remove all parts that you can and wipe them down. Clean holes in the sprayer arms to clear blockages.
If your dishes are coming out dirty, try filling the loads to only ¾ or ½ full. Rinse items thoroughly before placing in the dishwasher.
If you have a leaky dishwasher, check the gasket/seal.
If your dishwasher doesn’t drain, remove the filter and drain pieces (if you can). Look for pieces of food blocking the drain.
