MOVE-OUT PROCESS

As you go through the move-out process, make sure you are completing each of these tasks.

Cleaning Checklist: Here is a list of what and how to clean, and commonly-charged fines for not doing so.

  • In general, all items checked on your move-in checklist need to be present and in good repair (except for normal wear and tear) when you vacate, or you will be charged to repair or replace them.

  • Remove all belongings and trash from the inside and outside of your unit ($150 minimum for removal and rehoming of belongings or trash)

  • Move trash container to the curb ONLY if collection is the following day. If trash collection is further out, make arrangements to come back and take it out. DO NOT leave a full trash can without making arrangements to take care of it. ($50 to take your trash out for you if you leave a full trash can without a plan in place)

  • Replace any burned out light bulbs with LEDs ($3 minimum per burned out bulb)

  • Clean light fixtures, even inside globes

  • Clean and dust heat vents, baseboard heaters, cold air returns, and grates.

  • Clean all doors, doorjambs, windows, frames, and sills inside and out. Clean window treatments and blinds.

  • If a dog was present in your home, clean up all dog waste ($5 per waste pile)

  • Clean all kitchen surfaces, walls, floors, stove, oven, cabinets, storage areas, sinks, and appliances, including behind appliances. All surfaces must be clean and free of grease, dirt, and crumbs.

  • Clean oven thoroughly. Replace the drip pans on the stove (if applicable) if they are greasy. Clean the vent hood and any grease spots.

  • Clean washing machine and dryer, if applicable, including behind them, lint trap, filters, and outdoor lint vent.

  • Scrub all bathroom surfaces until they sparkle. Toilets, walls, floors, grout, cabinets, storage areas, vanities, mirror, bath tub, shower.

  • Clean any hair out of all drains. (The plumber charges $80-$150 to unclog drains.)

  • Clean shelving in cabinets and closets, and remove and discard any hangers.

  • Sweep and mop all hard flooring. If we have to scrub floors and remove excess wax, dirt, or residue, the labor cost will be charged to you.

  • Wipe down walls and trim. A mild solution will remove dirt, grease, and marks. Clean scuffs with rag or magic eraser. Large holes in walls or ceiling will be repaired by maintenance staff and charged to your account. Please do not patch your own holes. ($10-25 per large hole)

  • Vacuum all carpeting. If in your lease you agreed to clean the carpets upon move-out, provide a receipt for professional cleaning.

  • Patios/balconies/outdoor areas must be clean with all debris, belongings, and trash removed.

  • Storage rooms and/or garage must be swept out and all debris, belongings, and trash removed.

  • Empty all closets, cupboards, and drawers. Wipe them out and take care of scuffs and trash.

  • Clean your parking areas and garage floor (if applicable) of any grease or oil spots.

  • Any cleaning needed after you move out will be charged at a minimum $50/hour.
